From my understanding all 1984 and later 5 speeds are the same length. "I believe" 79-83 5 speeds are approx 4 3/4" shorter than the later models. the gseries & w56 are 25.5 inches long & L series is 20.75 inches. I am looking for a shorter transmission to use in my 85 pickup.Jesster1- The W56 is a heavier duty trans. than the G52. The biggest differance that you will see between the two is were the trans. and the T-case levers are. The levers on the W56 also sit back away from the dash more.
