They get paid per package/route, Amazon pays the DSP for a 10 hour work day for each employee, the faster the DSP gets everyone off the road, the more hourly wages they can pocket.Unfortunately whoever you hit by accident thinks you're Amazon. I also was one of the "it's 40 hours a week" but what I've found out is that your scheduled 40 hours, doesn't mean you'll get it. Where only paid the hours we work, with the fastest drivers getting efficient pay which is just guaranteed 10 hours. I imagine it's really about lowering their liability. If someone gets hit by an Amazon van, they sue the DSP not Amazon. If a driver gets road rage and assaults another driver, they sue the DSP not Amazon. If a DA drives off the road due to driving in unsafe weather, they sue the DSP not Amazon.I personally preferred Amazon a little more because my dsp was great and the owner actually cared about his employees.
